One of the things that Saint Matthew School does best is making students feel connected to their teachers and to each other. From the minute they arrive on campus each day, they are joyfully welcomed individually by name. Students are given many opportunities to build strong relationships as they interact with their teachers and other students throughout the year. One way in which they build these relationships is through the Middle School Advisory Program.
For students in grades 6-8, Saint Matthew offers a weekly advisory program to ensure that every student feels understood and supported and to establish a connection with a special adult advocate.
Advisors help students to transition through the middle school experience, provide a comfortable environment for students to express their opinions, and enable students to connect to a small group within the larger class group. Advisors offer guidance, academic and social support, and provide opportunities for a variety of discussion topics. Because advisors have a view of the “whole child,” they are able to gain valuable insights. Students feel secure, and enjoy the benefits of creating meaningful relationships with each other, and with a special adult in the school.
